Setting up Author Tracking in WordPress:-

Firstly you need to install & activate MonsterInsights plugin. This is the best GA plugin for WordPress. You’ll need pro plan of the plugin to access custom dimensions feature.

After activation, Go to insights- Setting page in WordPress dashboard to enter license key.  After verifying the key details, you need to connect your site with analytics account.

On setting page, tap on “Connect MonsterInsights” button to proceed. Once connected Analytics will start tracking your site traffic.

Setting up Author Custom Dimensions:-

Now as everything is up, let’s tell Google analytics to start tracking authors by add a custom dimensions.  Visit Insights>>  Addons Page. Here you need to tap on install button next to Custom dimension addon.

Once the installation is complete and activated, Go to insights >> Settings page and switch to “Conversion” tab.

How to Enable Author Tracking in WordPress?

Scroll down and you will see custom dimension box. Here you have to add a new custom dimension.  Tap on “Add New Custom Dimension” and select “Author” from drop-down menu.  Click on save changes button to store your settings.

Now setup the custom dimensions in google analytics similar to above. Open analytics dashboard and switch to all website data view.

Here you need to click on “Admin” at the bottom left side and select custom definitions>> custom dimensions under property column.

On the next screen, write “Author” in name field and leave other fields unchanged.  Then click on Create button and Analytics will save it. Next you will see some code on another screen but you don’t need to do anything with this and just click on Done.

Now you will see “Author” custom dimensions listed on a table with index value. Make sure author index value and id for the custom dimension is same. If not, edit custom dimension in monsterinsights and change the id to match the index value.

That’s it. You have successfully setup author tracking.
