How to Undo Changes in WordPress with Post Revision:Did you have an idea that WordPress comes with default feature that enables you to undo changes and get the previous version back of your post. This is called revision or post revision.

Many of us do many mistakes while writing. Sometimes you realize that you hadn’t deleted that you wrote previously. Revisions allows you to fix your issues by revert back in time and undo the required changes.

In this post we will let you know how you can undo the changes in WordPress with post revision.

What is Post Revision?

WordPress has inbuilt feature to store revision history for each page and posts that you are writing. For every draft you are working on , WordPress auto saves a temporary revision. This type of post revision called auto-save.

Every 60 seconds WordPress stores a  auto-save. Also it replaces the older auto-save with the new post revision. The auto save feature helps in restore content if something goes wrong before you save it.

WordPress also auto save posts every time a user click on save, update or publish button. Unlike the auto save these revisions are stored permanently in the WordPress database. You can browse or locate back to any of these revisions from the post edit screen.

How to Undo Changes in WordPress with Post Revision:

WordPress shows number of revisions under the “Document” panel on the pages/post edit screen. You can find it on the right side of post editor screen. By clicking on the revisions will leads you to revision screen.

Post revision screen will display the latest version of post with scrollbar on top. Sliding the button on scrollbar will take you to the earlier revision. Changes in each revisions will be highlighted in pink and green colors.

You can use previous & next buttons to move around revisions. Also you can check box on top says: Compare any two revisions. Doing so will split and highlight the differences.

To restore any version you can simply click on Restore this auto save or Restore the revision button. WordPress will restore the selected revision as your post revision and can save it as draft.

Keep in mind that restore to earliest version will not delete your latest version of post. WordPress will store it in database as another version.
